Which Starfleet Uniform Would You Prefer Wearing Regularly
Which Starfleet Uniform Would You Prefer Wearing Regularly?
If I were to choose a Starfleet uniform to wear regularly, I might opt for the classic Starfleet uniform from Deep Space Nine or the late TNG-era. One that's an actual uniform, not one that looks like I'm heading to a Devo, ABBA, or Wiggles concert.
How many times has the ship been in danger? Necessary, but I wouldn't want to be there myself. I certainly enjoy watching the crew get out of various scrapes, but I have no interest in being in those scrapes.
I think the Federation is great. I'd love to live in that future, but not on a starship exploring the galaxy. I might be okay with being in civil service on a ship that does planetary surveys. That's fairly closely related to what I do now. But, keep me off the front lines and out of the military, even the drastically watered-down military that Starfleet is.
The Importance of Pockets
Someone raised a point that only the Enterprise jumpsuits have pockets. This is very important to me given that I just can't wear anything that doesn't have pockets. The fashion choices in Star Trek are crucial; functionality often trumps aesthetics for me.
However, I think the suits look really silly. What's up with those dickpockets? (Note: dickpockets is a more colloquial term for cargo pants or cargo pockets.)
Trekkie Styles: TNG Uniforms and Beyond
I love the TNG uniforms. They look simple and bold, but they are incredibly uncomfortable as hell. The back-zipper helps set it apart but also makes putting one on a test of flexibility and patience. So, probably not.
The Discovery uniforms also look good, though they have forward-facing zippers and are tighter than spandex. I heard it takes over half an hour to put them on, so that's not an option for me.
The Voyager and DS9 uniforms look the most comfortable by far. While they still don't have zippers or pockets, they seem like the most casual and comfortable option. They're the ones I'd be willing to wear regularly in a pinch.
Aesthetic and Practicality
This one minus the... style. They look like actual uniforms that actually work. They maintain the utilitarian look of Starfleet uniforms while being sleek and comfortable. This is crucial for someone like me who needs practicality and style in equal measure.
Lastly, I just want to say I've always had a crush on Marina Sirtis, especially when she was Deanna Troi. However, I always hated how they flopped her cleavage around all over the place for the first six seasons of TNG. People may hate Jellico, but the man got her in an actual uniform! As soon as they did that, I think she became significantly more incredibly beautiful. She especially wears that uniform with style.
