In recent times, incidents like corruption charges against two Major Generals in India have shown that any organization can have individuals who do not uphold the values they claim to embody. However, it is the vast majority of soldiers who stand guard for their nations, both within and without their borders. Their discipline, training, and readiness to perform any task deserve our admiration.

The Extent of Military Service

It matters greatly how you view those in the military. To focus solely on the Army is to ignore the Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps. Millions have served, and countless books have been written about their experiences. In times of natural disaster, soldiers are often the first to respond, rescuing their fellow citizens. Even when some may have had negative experiences, soldiers who have served honorably, and perhaps paid the ultimate price, deserve our respect and gratitude.

Some may have had negative experiences, such as those drafted into service during conflicts like the Vietnam War or the Korean War. These veterans’ sacrifices and hardships are just as valid and deserve acknowledgment. By recognizing the diverse experiences within the military, we can foster a more inclusive and respectful society that appreciates the service and dedication of all those who have worn the uniform.
