The Next Marvel Superhero Team: The Young Avengers
What Might Be the Next Movie Like the Avengers in Marvel Phase 4?
With the departure from the Avengers-style title movies, Marvel is gearing up for a new era. The studio plans to build up and introduce new characters that will ultimately come together in a team-up movie reminiscent of the Avengers. This phase will see the spotlight on a new group of heroes, and the most likely choice might be the The Young Avengers!
The Rise of Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
At the Comic Con, a big announcement was made that could point towards the formation of this new team. Consider Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a pivotal movie in the phase 4 storyline. In the comics, Scarlet Witch has two sons, who could potentially form the core of the Young Avengers in the movies.
The Young Avengers: A Family of Heroes
The team consists of:
Billy Kaplan (Wiccan)
Billy is described as a teenager dressing as a teenage Thor, or "Asgardian". His powers are more similar to his mother's chaotic magic, making him incredibly powerful even at a young age. After receiving some training, he'll be a formidable force.
Thomas Shepard (Speed)
Thomas starts off as a criminal but is later rescued and called Speed. He has the ability to move at exceptional speeds, akin to Quicksilver.
Theodore Altman (Hulkling)
Hulkling, with his shapeshifting ability, is the son of an enslaved Kree and a captured Skrull. He likens himself to a teenage Hulk and is highly intelligent and powerful.
Cassie Lang (Stinger)
Cassie Lang, daughter of Scott Lang and Ant-Man, can now grow and shrink on her own due to Pym particles exposure.
Kate Bishop
Known as the new Hawkeye, Kate Bishop is just as skilled with a bow as her predecessor. She was recruited by the Young Avengers and decided to join them.
The Role of Time Travel and Kang the Conquerer
Exploring time travel in the MCU opens the door to Kang the Conquerer, a powerful time-traveling warlord. His past self, known as Nathan, joined the Young Avengers as Iron Lad. He was given a neuro-kinetic suit by Kang, but unlike his older self, Nathan chose to join the Avengers for help.
The Building Blocks for the Young Avengers
Each of these characters already has a connection to the MCU:
Kate Bishop is the daughter of Falcon, and has been trained by him already in the films. Cassie Lang is Scott Lang's daughter and has been seen in the Ant-Man films. The Kree and Skrull have been introduced in previous MCU movies, making Hulkling possible. With time travel becoming a significant element of the plot, Iron Lad finds a place in the story. The Super-Soldier serum has been seen in other MCU films, allowing for the creation of Patriot. Scarlet Witch's trauma and her reasons for using her chaotic magic are well established, providing a basis for the creation of Wiccan and Speed. The Young Avengers are on the horizon, and their potential is thrilling for fans of the MCU. With each character having a backstory and connection to previous MCU films, the team-up movie promises to be a significant milestone in the Marvel phase 4.
