Strictly Disney: An Exciting Look at 'Ralph Breaks the Internet'

Who would have thought that Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 or should it be Ralph Wrecks the Internet would be big news and yet something I would be genuinely interested in!

I wasn't the biggest fan of the first Wreck-It Ralph film, but I did love how the film focused on a villain and the concept was cool. However, I felt the execution was sometimes lacking. But when we began hearing word of the Disney sequel, I grew more and more excited with each new headline. The one that set me off was the announcement that all the Disney Princesses, including some reprised by their original voice actresses, would be included.

The Expectation

When we first got the announcement, it was big news. Disney's Princess franchise has only ever existed in its own bubble of individual franchises. Disney never brought them all together, Avengers-style. But this film announced they would. All eleven official princesses and the three mentioned above would return, voiced by original actresses from all the films.

Sub-Divisions and Cameos

In the trailer, Disney was basically showing off how many sub-divisions they own and basically warning other studios to watch out. Disney doesn't only own Disney Live-action and Animation, but also DisneyToons, Disney Nature, Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, Pixar, and soon, if Comcast doesn't snatch them up, they may own Fox and all its characters.

Regarding the best moments from the new trailer, here are a few highlights:

Best Moments: Knowsmore

At 7:00 in the trailer, a new character, Knowsmore, is introduced. Knowsmore is a character who tries to guess what you're writing on Google, but consistently gets it wrong. I found the scene charming but noted that if Disney is not careful, he may get annoying if used excessively. Less is more with Knowsmore.

Best Moments: Yesss

At 6:00, a new character, Yesss 100, agrees with Ralph that it should be "Wrecks" not "Breaks," and it made for one of the most thought-provoking parts in the trailer. Her character design is awesome, and the colors give off a calming feel despite the edgy look.

Best Moments: Eeyore and Iron Man Cameos

In what looks like a stroke of genius, Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh and an Iron Man flyby cameo are showcased. Both characters are so iconic and bring a unique charm to the trailer. In a typical Tony Stark fashion, the Iron Man steal the show, showing that even in blink-and-you-miss-it moments, Disney still managed to include some of its most popular characters.

Best Moments: Disney Branding

This scene showed Disney's vast empire in action. From Disney Animation to Pixar to Marvel to Star Wars to the Muppets, it felt like Disney united. Other studios in the Big Six should be wary. Disney is more than a movie studio now; it's an empire.

Best Moments: The Disney Princess Unity

A significant highlight is how the Disney Princesses unite. Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana, Rapunzel, Merida, Elsa, Anna, and Moana together in one scene. This unity showcases Disney's commitment to maintaining authenticity and character integrity. The inclusion of Merida, a Pixar princess, is particularly notable, showing Disney's commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

Personal Takeaways

While some may criticize the original three princesses as one-dimensional, I respectfully disagree. These princesses teach young people values that the later princesses may not. They teach kindness, responsibility, and a sense of order. Cinderella's martial prowess and Pocahontas and Jasmine's stances are all powerful and awe-inspiring. The princesses are truly cool and bring a new level of excitement to the film.

Other Notable Moments: Stormtroopers and Egel

Another fun element introduced is the Stormtroopers, who act as internet police. They pursue Ralph and Vanellope, looking for Vanellope in the Disney Princess dressing room. This cat-and-mouse scenario has the potential for many jokes and plays well with the overall tone of the film. The animation style is reminiscent of The Clone Wars and Rebels, which is a distinguishing and memorable trait.

Although much of the trailer focuses on Ralph and Vanellope, perhaps Mario's appearance is a teaser for a future installment. This film is indeed overloaded with Easter eggs and cameos, and the combination of Ralph Breaks the Internet and the potential of a Disney Princess Avengers-style movie makes this an incredibly exciting time for Disney fans.
