Picking Companion Pokemon: A Non-Combatant's Perspective

When it comes to picking a team of three Pokémon, especially at the most recognizable stage of their evolution, the decision can be quite challenging. For a non-combatant like myself, the primary focus of such a team would be companionship rather than battle prowess. Therefore, I have carefully considered the choices and have settled on picking three starters that are not from the same region, reflecting my love for nature and animals.

Introduction to the Team

Given my past experiences and preferences, my team would consist of three starters: Bulbasaur, Eevee, and Rowlett. Each of these Pokémon brings a different value to the team, aligning with my appreciation for nature, variety, and observation.

Bulbasaur: The First and Favorite

Bulbasaur, the first Pokémon I ever chose, holds a special place in my heart. Not only is it my favorite starter, but it also holds a position as the first Pokémon I ever encountered in the Pokémon world. As a strong representation of the growth and harmony between humans and nature, Bulbasaur is the perfect starting point for my companion team. Although I am not focused on combat, I would still appreciate having a Pokémon with survivability and support moves, such as Leer or Mega Drain.

Eevee: A Versatile Companionship

Eevee, before the controversy, is another significant choice. In the current context of the game, Eevee is still considered a starter Pokémon, making it an ideal companion. However, if we consider the scenario where it does not evolve (as in Let's Go, Eevee), I would take this opportunity to evolve it into Leafeon. Leafeon's strong offensive capabilities and supportive abilities align well with my companionship focus. Imagine a Leafeon with moves like Hidden Power, Leaf Storm, and Solar Beam, providing a balance of offense and support during our adventures. If Leafeon can't be an option, I would consider giving Eevee the moves Quick Attack and Shadow Ball, which offer both offensive and defensive versatility.

Rowlett: A Perfect Blend of Observation and Nature

My third pick, Rowlett, is a stroke of nature itself. Obsessed with owls, Rowlett serves as a perfect companion for observing the world around us. Although I have considered other starters like Cyndaquill or Torchic due to their Fire typing, Rowlett’s dual Normal/Flight typing and the ability to use Sleep Powder and Hypnosis make it an excellent choice for a companion. These moves not only contribute to the team’s vigilance but also enhance our ability to explore and interact with the environment.

Completing the Team: Grookey and Oshawott

While Rowlett is a fitting choice, Grookey and Oshawott, both from the Galar region, are also fantastic starters. Grookey’s Arboria form, with its majestic abilities like Leaf Storm and Grass Knot, and Oshawott’s Water-type with its powerful Water Pulse and Encore make them appealing options. However, they are not my first choices for this companion team due to my preference for stability and the fact that they are part of the same region as some other choices. Hence, I have decided to settle with the abovementioned trio.

Conclusion: The Team

In conclusion, my final team consists of Bulbasaur, Grookey, and Rowlett. These Pokémon, despite being from different regions, complement each other well, with a combination of grass and flight typing, providing a balance of support, offensive capabilities, and an ideal environment for observation and growth.
